Knight: Havant must avoid making same mistakes

Charlton Park sneaked a 30-28 victory with a late converted try at Hooks Lane leaving home coach Will Knight extremely disappointed.

Now there is a chance for Havant to put things right.

‘It was massively disappointing that we didn’t finish Charlton Park off in the first game,’ said Knight.

‘I thought we would go on and win once we went 28-23 ahead at the start of the second half.

‘We were far too careless, producing lots of errors.

‘Defensively players were jumping out of the line and getting in the wrong positions to make their tackles.

‘This time we will need to be far more precise and accurate in taking our chances when they come along.

‘Charlton Park are fighting for their lives and we know they won’t give us an easy ride.’

Jack Ward-Golden returns to the front row and Richard Janes comes in for the unavailable Steve Cruddas in the back-row.

In the backs, Jake Hewitt is recalled at scrum half and Pat Gains reappears on the wing after injury.

Meanwhile, head coach Ben Dudley has warned his Portsmouth players there is no place for complacency ahead of their London two south west game at struggling Basingstoke (3pm).

‘It would be very dangerous for us to start thinking of Basingstoke in terms of being whipping boys,’ said Dudley.

‘Though they are yet to win there have been spells in games when they have been competitive.

‘In our first meeting with them they held parity for a long period of the game.

‘It would be foolish on our part to underestimate them.

‘We have to make sure we prepare and approach the game with the usual intensity.’

Captain Damien Gibbs has now left for New Zealand, so Luke Richardson takes over.

Anthony Fookes comes in at six with Sam Ellis also recalled at scrum half.
