Mayhem secure top spot after beating St Johns

They played out their final match of the season before the friendly tournament to conclude.

St Johns had struggled with players at the first stage.

But they now have regulars such as Darren Pankhurst, who towers above the ladies, has an impressive jump to take many interceptions and plays with as much humour as he can, and Toby Mowat, who may need to brush up on netball and also plays with newly-found skills, a sense of humour, and a great deal of sportsmanship.

Captain Sharon White said they don’t concentrate on the finishing score.

For them it is all about the improvements made by the team.

And although they were beaten 24-10 they had plenty to be pleased with.

The goals they scored made double figures and they all played again with a smile, with the whole team enjoying their netball.

GBC Mayhem have dominated all season and haven’t lost a game, scoring an impressive 172 goals overall.

The team were without husband and wife duo Gary and Lymara Slater but remained solid throughout the game.

Shooter Jackie Vincent is still not missing many opportunities and as always had her husband on the sidelines to tell her when she needed to up her game.

The win for GBC placed them at the top of the league and as winners overall this year.

Travelopia Thunder, captained by Emily Forbes finished in a very close second, with Estee Elites third, ABPmer in fourth then The Walton’s, St Johns and finally Babcock Ballers.

The tournament had a similar result but Estee Elites jumped in and took the title from Thunder then GBC.

Starting in April this year at Cams Hill School, Fareham, the All About Netball opened the doors to men playing on the netball court.

Following on from a couple of the England Netball work place festivals played in the county and seeing the fun these teams were having, organisers decided to take it one step further and put it into a league format.

The teams have met once a month, therefore not required too much commitment on a Saturday morning.

It has been incredible fun and the lads are really enjoying it, probably far more than they thought.

One of the nice things about playing on a Saturday morning is the added family on the sidelines all cheering on their teams.

It makes for an excellent atmosphere and is lovely to watch.

The players get lots of encouragment throughout the matches and the league has been a big success.
