Amazing throw-mentum continues for City athletes in Hampshire Championships

The calibre of athletes the club has in the various groups is exceptional with many athletes among the best ranked in the country.

In the under-13 boys age group Jack Holt won the shot in 8.80m and the javelin with 32.12. Second in the shot was his club-mate Eben Skinner (8.15) while Mackenzie Van Laun picked up a bronze medal in the javelin with 26.80.

Heather Cubbage took the under-20 women’s discus title with 44.63 and she finished second in the hammer with 47.25 which went to Cerys Thomas who won with an excellent throw of 48.24.

Rose-May Sprake took the under-13 girls’ shot put title with 8.64 and was second in the discus with 23.77.

Serena Vincent produced a championship best performance to win the under-20 women’s shot with a distance of 14.25.

Gabriella Jones had a very good championship, taking second in the under-15 girls’ shot (12.00), second in the discus (26.22) and third in the javelin (31.79).

Erin Lloyd took the bronze medal in the under-15 girls’ hammer with 30.36.

City coach Bronwin Carter was very happy what she saw from her group.

She said: ‘We got five golds, six silvers and five bronze medals in our group. Serena Vincent’s championship best performance was good and Jack Holt won the double on his debut. We are all extremely proud, with many personal bests set on a good weekend of throwing.’

In the under-17 women’s discus Ellie Lovett finished second in 32.82 and Phoebe March took the silver in the hammer (47.61).

Portsmouth Grammar School pupil Maya Russell finished third in the under-17 women’s javelin (25.24).

Aidan Hunt got the silver medal in the under-15 boys’ javelin with 47.56 and Christopher Jones-Parker was third with 47.34. Jamie Hooker picked up the silver medal in the hammer with 8.64.

Sam Kershaw got the silver medal in the under-17 men’s shot with a distance of 12.28. Callum Taylor earned the bronze in 10.97 and also got silver in the javelin with 56.29. Tyler Pattison got the silver medal in the discus with 40.64.

In the senior age group City’s Claudia Cubbage completed the hat-trick of women’s high jump (1.30), pole vault (2.10) and shot (8.91).

Havant’s Josh Kelly won the men’s shot title with a throw of 13.04m and club-mate Alex Fitzpatrick took second in the hammer with 35.01.
