Barnes-storming start – but then Portsmouth throw it away as Petersfield hit them for six

Portsmouth 3rds slipped two places to seventh in Division 5 of the Hampshire League after losing a 2-0 lead against Petersfield to crash 6-3.

Paul Barnes and Owen Barnes put the hosts in command before keeper Oli Barron, having already been kept busy, conceded three times in quick succession before the interval.

Paul Barnes levelled after the restart but some complacency set in and Petersfield stormed away to win with three more goals.

Tristan Barnes was voted Portsmouth’s player of the match.

Portsmouth 4ths are now just two points clear at the top of Hampshire Division 8 after a 1-1 draw with Isle of Wight 2nds.

Pete Wingate grabbed Portsmouth’s goal, and Bryan Hodges was man of the match for his defensive display.

Second-placed US Portsmouth 2nds took advantage by beating third-placed Southampton Otters 4-0.

Gary Bull celebrated his Portsmouth Vets debut with a brace in a 7-1 victory over Salisbury.

The midfielder struck twice in a second half featuring five Portsmouth goals.

After John Pratt had deflected in a fierce, knee high Pete Rayner shot to open the scoring, Salisbury's continual pressure resulted in an equaliser.

Tim Schofield converted a penalty stroke to put the hosts back in front at the interval.

Rayner made it 3-1 following good approach work by Mark Wheeler before Schofield (penalty), Bull and Pratt completed the rout.
