The 17-year-old potter, from Havant, battled back from 3-1 down in his first round meeting with Welshman Duane Jones to claim a 4-3 victory – bagging just his second ever triumph on the main tour in the process.

Wilson hit half-century breaks of 61 and 56 respectively in the final two frames of the match to book a meeting with former World Championship semi-finalist Dave Gilbert tomorrow night.

Jones looked on his way to a comfortable victory when a break of 80 put him 3-1 up in the contest.

But Wilson rose to the task brilliantly, reeling of three successive frames to come out on top in a battle that lasted more than three hours.

It’s another massive moment in his professional career having secured a maiden main tour win earlier this month at the Shoot Out event.

He will now be bidding to cause a major surprise when he comes up against world number 15 Gilbert in round two.
