Captain Morgan tops Havant’s Southern Premier League batting and bowling lists

Chris Morgan ended his first Southern Premier League season as Havant captain by topping both the batting and bowling honours list.

The left-arm spinner was the joint highest wicket-taker in the SPL Premier/Division 1 East group with 17 victims at 7.41.

That haul was boosted by a season’s best 5-20 in last weekend’s win against Sarisbury Athletic.

Morgan took a wicket every 12.71 balls across his side’s six completed East games which saw Havant finish runners-up to St Cross 2nds.

David Orchard, who plays for St Cross, also bagged 17 wickets. But both his average (9.00) and strike rate (15.24) was higher than Morgan’s.

In the West group, New Milton's George Watts took 20 wickets at 10.00.

Burridge’s leading wicket-taker was Sullivan White, with 12 victims at 17.00. Dan Stancliffe took 10 wickets at 19.20.

Sarisbury’s highest wicket-taker was Rob Franklin, with 12 at 21.33 followed by Sam Hill with 10 at 28.8.

Joe Kooner-Evans topped the Portsmouth lists with 11 wickets at 17.18, with Harrison Webb bagging nine at 12.44.

Teenager Freddie Gadd - like Morgan, a left-arm spinner - was Havant’s second highest wicket-taker with nine at 15.6.

Morgan also topped the Havant batting list with 198 runs from four innings at an average of 99.00.

That was helped by two half-centuries in his last two visits to the crease - an SPL best 84 not out against the Hampshire Academy and 71 against Sarisbury.

Pete Hopson was second with 194 runs from five innings at 48.5.

Ben Duggan was Portsmouth’s highest runscorer with 217 from six innings at 36.17.

Second was Jack Marston with 206 at 34.33.

Only three players in the East division scored more than Duggan.

They were Hampshire Academy pair Tom Prest (412 from seven innings at 68.67) and

Fletcha Middleton (269 from six at 134.5).

Sarisbury’s Josh Hill was third with 244 runs at 34.86. Team-mate Franklin scored 211 at 30.14.

Burridge’s top scorer was skipper Hlio De Abreu, with 140 at 20.00, while Chris Blake hit 130 runs at 21.67.

In the West division, Calmore's Ben Johns was top runscorer with 320.
