The Purbrook fighter will battle it out for 2003-age group category under-69kg National Youth Championships glory in Coventry.

Martin will first meet Manchester-based Kieran McDaid in his quest to become the number one in the country on Friday.

And there is an added incentive for the 16-year-old heading into the quarter-final bout.

The Team Wiseman boxer was beaten by the same opponent in the NABC final at the end of last year.

Martin’s coach, Daron Wiseman, believes there could have been no better fight for his prospect.

The young gun has been keen on a rematch ever since that defeat – and now the chance has arisen.

‘Hopefully, it’s sweet revenge and Charlie gets that win,’ said Wiseman.

‘The first thing he said when he lost last year was could he get a rematch.

‘But because he lived so far away it would have been almost impossible.

‘Charlie has a score to settle with him.

‘It’s going to be a tough fight for both of them.

‘They’re both similar in style but we’ve been watching videos of him.

‘We’ve been watching videos and Charlie is adapting his style to suit.’

Should Martin defeat McDaid he would then need to come through two bouts in as many days in order to be crowned England’s national youth champion.

Wiseman is aware of the size of task his young prospect faces over the weekend.

But he has the confidence Martin can return to Purbrook as the number one in England.

‘Charlie is absolutely brilliant to have in the gym,’ added Wiseman.

‘He’s got good sparring in our gym against the others boys we’ve got there.

‘It’s going to be a tough, tough weekend.

‘They’re all good kids, they’ve all got brilliant records.

‘It’s anyone’s to be honest, they’re all just as good as each other.

‘I don’t like overlooking anyone, but they’re all good kids.

‘Let’s just get the first one out of the way then worry about what comes next.’
