The Gosport fighter was overcome in a difficult battle with nine-time national champion and European gold medallist Edward Donovan.

King, 25, returning to the ring after an eight-year absence, faced a tall order against an Irishman with a decorated amateur record, who was also making his professional bow, on Frank Warren's BT Sport Show.

The super welterweight contest went all the way but the decision did not go the way of the Portsmouth-based boxer.

Still, King could take comfort from the fact he got four rounds under his belt in the pro ranks for the first time - and getting an opportunity on top promoter Frank Warren's show.
