Havant Ladies RFC desperate to ensure ‘the show goes on’ in the Channel Islands

Havant Ladies have had to overcome numerous problems to ensure their Women's NC 1 South East (South) League game at Guernsey goes ahead this weekend.

The recent collapse of the FlyBe airline threw all their plans into chaos.

But Havant captain Lucy King revealed they were not going to give up easily.

'Since the start of the season we have been planning for this weekend and have styled it as an end-of-season tour,' she explained.

'We booked accommodation for all players and supporters for two nights.

'We also bought tour t-shirts, packed the beer and, crucially, had booked the flights - or so we thought!

'When Flybe went into administration we were devastated and thought that our plans were ruined.

'Instead our coaching and management team have worked tirelessly - being on hold for hours, re-booking flights, and all to ensure that the show will go on!

'Arrangements are still being confirmed, but fingers crossed we will be running out on that Guernsey pitch and hunting down another all-important bonus point win.'

Havant know they have to resign themselves, at best, to finishing runners-up to London Irish.

'If we can finish one point behind Irish it will send a message to the rest of the league and set us up for next season,’ King added.

Havant held top spot for a large chunk of the season, but a bittersweet win against Streatham & Croydon last month could prove crucial. Though they won, they failed to claim a bonus point.

They then needed Canterbury to similarly deny London Irish at the beginning of this month, but it was not to be.
