‘We’re ruing that’ - Frustration for Moneyfields after missed opportunity against Westfield

Moneyfields sit fifth in the Isthmian South Central Division after a goalless draw against Westfield.

Callum Glen was left ‘ruing’ missed opportunities as Moneyfields played out a goalless draw against early play-off rivals Westfield.

Moneys were unable to make their first-half pressure count and struggled to break down the Field, who put on a solid defensive display to keep the scores level at the John Jenkins Stadium.

And it was frustration all round for Glen as Moneyfields dropped points for the second-successive match in the Isthmian South Central Division.

He said: ‘We’re all a bit frustrated with that because we were the better team. The first half especially we created quite a few chances and when you’re on top you have to take them.

‘It’s another game we haven’t scored in. So something we’re definitely going to have to reflect on.

‘I don’t think it’s through the want of trying or effort or quality of chances, it’s just that final bit that’s the hardest thing in football.

‘You’ve got to take your chances when you’re on top, though, and (in the) second half it was a lot more even.

‘It petered out a little bit at the end, a bit scrappy and the weather probably played a part of that. First half we should’ve taken the game at least one up at half time and we’re ruing that.’

Meanwhile, Storm Boelo caused havoc in the Wessex Premier League as wet and windy conditions battered the south-coast.

Although many of the fixtures in the region fell foul to the weather, Fleetlands were able to extend their unbeaten run to six matches.

The Coptermen secured a 2-1 win against early strugglers Bournemouth Poppies at Powder Monkey Park to move into ninth.

New signing Lewis Beale made an instant impact following his loan capture from Moneyfields before the game, netting either side of the break to secure the points.

Petersfield Town played out a 2-2 draw with Bemerton Heath in the only other contest played in the division after Hordean, Baffins and Fareham’s games were all lost to the weather.
