Team Evil win URBOND-organised community basketball event

Team Evil won the inaugural community basketball tournament organised by Portsmouth-based URBOND.

The event saw eight teams and 55 players take part, including Tres Basketball and Chichester Knights.

The teams were divided into two groups with the winner advancing to the final and the runner-up contesting a third/fourth place play-off.

Hot Shots won Pool A with nine points, with The Embers second on four points.

Team Evil topped Pool B with nine points, with Tres Basketball second with six points.

Other teams in Pool A were the Brick Layers and Chichester Knights, with M E Buckets and Uni & Friends making up Pool B.

Tres claimed third place, beating The Embers 22-9.

A very tight final saw Team Evil defeat Hot Shots 15-14.

The Most Valuable Player award went to Team Evil’s Tom Smith.

This tournament was sponsored by Richmond Motor Group, while the University of Portsmouth Basketball club provided volunteers Alicia, Marisa, Ichi, Alex and Charles who helped out with scoring and refereeing.

The next URBOND-organised tournament will take place on Saturday, May 30, at the Mountbatten Centre, Portsmouth.
