Pompey fans debate who should replace injured Pitman against Plymouth
Brett Pitman will miss Pompey's clash against Plymouth on Saturday.
The Blues captain was sidelined for his side’s 2-1 defeat at Peterborough last night with a hamstring injury.
As a result, Kenny Jacket went with Curtis Main to lead Pompey’s forward line.
However, substitute Conor Chaplin came off the bench to net on 78th minutes at London Road and gave the Blues a lifeline.
On Portsmouth FC – The News and portsmouth.co.uk the Fratton faithful have been debating who they think should start up front against the Pilgrims.
Here’s what they had to say ...
Think we’ve Chaplin scoring last night, Jackett may well start him Saturday. Thompson to come in at left back to allow Clarke to partner Hawkins at centre half.
Would like to see Main continue to get a chance, but Chaplin also deserves the opportunity to start.
Chaplin up top with Naismith just behind for me
Naismith to lead the line for me
Main as Plymouth are a physical team.
Naismith up top Chaplin just behind with Kennedy and Lowe on wings
Main and Hawkins have both done decent jobs up top this season, but if we can get Chaplin in the team and get the right service into him–which shouldn’t be too hard with Kennedy in the side and Naismith’s form on the up–then he will score goals.
Given that Bennett has struggled in a closer role to Pitman in Jackett’s rejigged 4-4-2, I hope that Chaplin gets a chance as the second striker when Pitman is back.
Away at Plymouth last season, I remember Chaplin giving their big defence the absolute run around and I couldn’t believe it when we took him off.
Their defenders are big and strong but they don’t deal with movement.
In physical battles against Main they would probably just about come out on top, so I would back Chaplin for this game.
