Portsmouth rising-star Wellington produces amazing Lakeside 5k victory

The City of Portsmouth athlete measured his effort superbly to position himself on the shoulder of Chichester’s Peter Concannon going into the final straight.

Wellington, 14, then eased past and clear to record a brilliant race win with a new personal best of 15min 38sec on Wednesday evening.

Wellington’s win showed he has no fears when it comes to taking on and beating the best adults and quicker times are undoubtedly ahead for him.

Concannon finished second in 15.42 with his club-mate James Baker third in 15.59.

Ellie Monks, of Southampton, finished first lady with a time of 17.19.

City’s Emma Montiel crossed the line second and was first veteran-40 lady as she recorded a time of 18.06.

Nicole Ainsworth, 13, also showed her outstanding ability with a brilliant time of 18.17 to finish third female.

The third race in the series takes place on Wednesday, June 29 at Lakeside, North Harbour (7.15pm).
