Carter: Moneys improving despite terrible conditions

Dave Carter rated it as the worst pitch he has ever experienced.

The Moneys boss said: ‘The pitch was terrible. It looked like they had taken the cows off it just before the game.

‘It was horrendous and you couldn’t pass the ball on it.

‘As a result it was more a war of attrition than a game of football. It certainly wasn’t pretty.

‘The important thing for us, though, was coming away with three points.’

Moneys took the lead shortly before half-time through captain Steve Hutchings.

The striker finished well after capitalising on a poor goal-kick.

Fellow striker Howard Neighbour sealed the win in the final minute.

Max Smith and Marley Ridge set up the chance with Neighbour slotting home at the far post.

Moneys might have won by more only for the referee to change his mind after awarding a first-half penalty.

‘We had the ball on the penalty spot ready to take the kick when the referee decided the sun had got in his eyes and he’d got it wrong,’ added Carter.

‘With all the teams ahead of us losing this was a good day. It enabled us to make up some lost ground on the play-off places.

‘That is three games without a loss and we are starting to regain some of our form.’
