Moneys boss happy despite late blow

Only two minutes remained when the visitors forced their equaliser.

After a goalless first half, Marley Ridge put the home side in front with a terrific individual goal.

Ridge collected the ball on the halfway line and beat a raft of opponents before toe-poking it past the keeper.

That looked enough to give Moneyfields a second successive win until they failed to clear their lines at the death.

‘It was frustrating to concede so late in the game,’ said manager Dave Carter.

‘For the last 10 minutes we played a man short after Louis Martin picked up a silly second yellow card.

‘Our focus before the game was not to get beaten and we achieved that.

‘We felt we did enough to take all three points.

‘Four points from two games against two top sides is pleasing, though.

‘We are starting to regain the confidence we had earlier in the season.’

On a difficult pitch the game turned out to be a battle between two physical sides.

Moneys felt aggrieved in the opening 45 minutes when two goals were disallowed.

Both Sam Pearce and Steve Hutchings saw efforts ruled out for offside.

Dan Wooden also missed a great chance when he fired over the bar from close range.

Carter added: ‘Our next three games are against sides at the bottom end of the table and we want nine points.

‘Unfortunately we lost experienced defender Brett Poate to injury again.

‘It looks like he is going to be out for a few weeks and he will be a big loss.’

Goals from Alex Shephard and Michael Newman saw Clanfield come from behind to beat Fleetlands 2-1 in a scrappy Hampshire Premier League senior division contest at Peel Park.
