Running community set for busy week

IT IS a busy week for runners with the Bayside 5k Series and the Hayling Billy 5 race taking place.

The action starts tonight with the second race of the Absolute Running summer series, in Gosport (7.30pm).

It was an exciting opening event last month.

The race was won by Andy Simpson, of Stubbington Green, in an impressive time of 16min 36sec.

First female was Jen Elkins, of Southampton, in 17.53.

Winner of the junior 1k race was Josh Mitchinson in 3.14.

Theaction is at Stokes Bay Road, close to the Bayside Cabin Cafe, PO12 2QT – with the children’s 1k sprint starting at 7.15pm.

On Wednesday it is the Victory AC Hayling five-mile trail race (7.15pm).

This event sold out well in advance. It starts at the end of the Hayling Billy Nature Trail, West Town, Hayling Island, PO11 0EH.

Meanwhile, the Gosport Golden Mile (10am), Golden 5k (10.45am) and wheelchair race (9am) take place on Sunday – also hosted by Absolute Running.
