Zablocki wins fast Lakeside Series opener

The American, who competes for Chichester Runners, finished with an excellent time of 15min 04sec.

Southampton’s Matthew Revier crossed the line second (15.29).

Defending series champion Peter Concannon finished third in 15.40 and last summer’s runner-up James Baker clocked a time of 15.47 to take fourth place.

That made it three Chichester athletes in the top four.

City of Portsmouth’s talented under-15 athlete Lachlan Wellington finished fifth in 15.55, with Winchester’s James Heneghan sixth in 16.01 as he was first under-17.

Eastleigh’s Tom Stevens (16.15), City of Portsmouth’s Toby Brimecome (16.18), Declan Power (16.34) and Southampton athlete Tom Cully (17.03) made up the top 10.

Pete Collins, of Portsmouth Joggers, finished 11th in 17.06, with City’s Steven Cross 12th and also second under-17 in 17.10.

Southampton’s Ellie Monks was first lady (17.44).

Her club-mates Jen Elkins and Sarah Kingston finished second and third respectively.

Elkins crossed the line in a time of 18.11, with Kingston clocking 18.14.

And Southampton’s Ben Brown was first under-13 boy and 21st overall with a time of 17.40.

A total of 166 runners completed the first race at Lakeside, North Harbour.

City of Portsmouth and Havant jointly host the series.

Denmead Striders, Fareham Crusaders, Victory and Stubbington Green Runners were among the clubs well represented and plenty of new personal best times were set.

The five races are held throughout the summer with event two taking place on Wednesday, May 25 (7.15pm).
