Review: Bucks Fizz 35th Anniversary Tour at the Kings Theatre, Southsea

It's hard to believe it was nearly 35 years ago that Bucks Fizz won the Eurovision Song Contest with that iconic, skirt-ripping song, Making Your Mind Up.

As Mike, Cheryl, Jay and Bobby burst on stage to huge cheers from the crowd, I was instantly taken back to those bittersweet teenage years in the 80s.

Glancing around at the other die-hard fans in the audience I could tell they were feeling the same.

It wasn’t long before we all got into the party spirit, swaying as the band sang old favourites like My Camera Never Lies.

There was also a magical rendition of The Land Of Make Believe.

Back in the day the quartet had three number one hits and were one of the most successful pop bands of that era, selling 15 million records.

They might be a few years older but the bubbly popstars are clearly having a hoot, they chatted and sharied nostalgic memories with the audience between songs.

The evening ended on a feelgood high with an uplifting version of ‘Making Your Mind Up’ – and yes they still do the skirt ripping.

It was an evening of pure nostalgia with vintage pop that still has a whole lot of fizz.
