REVIEW: Comedy Club at the Wedgewood Rooms, Southsea
However, with Steve Gribbin occupying the coveted headline slot, the punters certainly weren’t short-changed.
The Liverpudlian comic was the crowd favourite on the night. Armed with his guitar, impressive singing voice and quick wit, his set centred on parodies of well-known hits with his expertly clever re-worked lyrics. From Donald Trump to Sepp Blatter, Adam Johnson to Jimmy Savile, no one was safe from Gribbin’s musical treatment. On Oscar Pistorius, he quipped ‘let that be a lesson to my girls to hurry up in the bathroom!’

Hide AdMaff Brown entertained the audience with his set. ‘Let’s go dark’ and that he did. While most jokes are unfit to publish in the paper, rest assured, he was a hit.
‘My wife wants kids, I don’t. So we’re gonna compromise and have kids. We’ll call them Annie or Oliver though so they know they’re not wanted.’
Angela Barnes was equally impressive when opening the show, Topics covered included her relationship and her weight including an amusing anecdote about a corset. Her view on Brexit is that we stay in ‘Who wants to live in a world without LIDL?’ Regular compere Dinga was on-hand with his usual gags and to present the ever-popular joke competition. The line-ups may change more often than the Sugababes, but you’re always guaranteed a good time.
