St Hubert’s Church in Idsworth to host new Hampshire music festival as One Word, Many Notes series announced
The music programme aims to bring classical music ‘closer’ to the community.
An ancient church in the heart of the Hampshire countryside will be the surprise venue for a new series of music festivals.
St Hubert’s Church in Idsworth, a Grade I listed Saxon-Norman building, has not only rare medieval wall paintings, but fantastic acoustics. Now, it will be the site of St Hubert’s Music, a live music series running over the next six months.

Each event in the ‘One Word, Many Notes’ series will explores a different theme - for example, upcoming performances plan to drum up feelings of love, friendship and remembrance.
Curator and member of the Idsworth congregation, Garry Lace, said: “What would happen if you took exceptional musicians out of formal concert halls and placed them somewhere more human, somewhere intimate, where the audience feels part of the experience rather than separate from it?
“This isn’t about making classical music grander. It’s about making it closer.”
With audiences of around 70 people per performance, the aim is to create a shared, close-up experience of music that feels personal, immersive, and accessible, whether you’re a lifelong classical listener or completely new to it.
The series launches in June with the Quattro String Quartet on June 13. For more information, and to purchase tickets, people can go to sthubertsmusic.co.uk.
