Lily Garland and her band gave a powerful performance on the Kings Theatre’ stage just after the announcement of her second Best Solo Act win in three years.

She says: ‘It was all a bit of a whirlwind because we were stood backstage and didn't realise the category was coming up.

‘Then we said to each other: “Oh my god, how awkward if we don't win, and then we have to perform”. But then they called my name, so it all worked out!’

Last year Lily helped start Country on The Coast, a country music festival at The Gaiety Bar on South Parade Pier, which returns on April 24-26. ‘I thought I was crazy enough last year to have 24 different artists. This year we're going over 30. Why not bigger – and better?’

Looking back on 2019 she says: ‘It was a really good year – we did some amazing gigs.

‘We did an amazing one at The Square Tower with Jessica Lynn who came over from New York, plus all of the artists we had at Country on The Coast, which was incredible.’

And for 2020?

‘I have got some great gigs lined up, I've got a few festivals and I'm travelling further afield this year, so Wales is booked in for the first time – and so many others as well.

‘My diary is booking up, but I can't tell anyone about them yet because the announcements haven't gone out!’
