It's behind vous...

IT MAY only be August, but the Christmas panto season has come early for some.

Holidaymakers on their way home from France on Brittany Ferries’ Bretagne service from St Malo to Portsmouth are being treated to a spectacular performance of rags-to-riches fairytale Cinderella.

Performed by a cast of eight in the ship’s Gwenn Ha Du bar, the panto features costumes, bespoke musical arrangements and tailor-made sets and props.

Holly, aged nine, returning with her mum from Damgan, France said: ‘It was great fun and better than the film.’

Brittany Ferries ships are staffed exclusively by French crew. But almost all passengers on services to and from the continent are British.

‘We have hosted a summer pantomime on board Bretagne for eight years and it’s very popular with our British passengers,’ said Bretagne’s captain Hervé de Kergariou.

‘Over time I have learnt to understand and enjoy the concept of pantomime. But for some of my crew, particularly new members, it’s a different story. It seems completely crazy to them.’
