And we are so lucky that whether you are looking for a coastal or a woodland walk there are plenty of fantastic options to choose from. Here are just some of our favourites:
5. Alver Valley Country Park
There is much to enjoy in Gosport's wildlife haven through the changing seasons. With wood walks and ponds to explore - and of course a park for those with children - it really does have it all.

6. Foxes Forest
Foxes Forest in Hilsea is the perfect walk for all of the family taking in the wooded area across the top of the city leading from the Hilsea Roundabout to Eastern Road. With ducks to feed, trees hide behind and the earth ramparts of Hilsea Lines to explore on Boxing Day. Picture: Sam Stephenson. Photo: Sam Stephenson
7. West Walk, Forest of Bere
Often called 100 acres because of its location off Hundred Acres Road in Wickham, this walk is a firm family favourite all year round - but is fantastic on Boxing day being the perfect place to stretch your legs. It has woods to explore, paths to follow, plenty of places to go den building and a play area with a sand pit for the children to enjoy. Photo: Google Streetview
8. Hayling Billy Trail
The five-mile mile off-off round trip starts at the car park to the rear of the garage at North Hayling Halt, Havant Road, Hayling and leads down to West Town, following the route of the former Hayling Billy railway. You can join it along various points - making a walk as long or short as you like. Pictured: A view of the remains of the old train bridge from the trail by Mike Fooks Photo: -
