As Storm Austen brings strong winds and heavy rains across Portsmouth and the South, here are some things to do to entertain the whole family this half term that don’t require an umbrella.
From museums to fantastic shows and performances, there is something for everyone this half term.
1. The new Royal Marines Museum at the Historic Dockyard
The new Royal Marines Museum at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard opens on October 24. The museum is designed to give visitors the feeling of what it’s like to go through Royal Marines training, and understand the experiences that personnel go through by using a mixture of hands-on interactive activities, multimedia displays, immersive technology and traditional artefact stands. | National World Resell Photo: Habibur Rahman
2. Get in the Halloween spirit at Fort Nelson
This half-term, Fort Nelson on Portsdown Hill offers a new “Creepy Codebreaker” museum trail, where children aged six to ten help caretaker Mr Grimm identify a creature creeping around at night, plus free daily drop-in Halloween activities for ages three to eight, such as the Ghoulish Game Zone and Creepy Creation Station. If you can brave the rain, the Pride of Portsmouth lions are now all gathered at the Fort too. | Sarah Standing Photo: Sarah Standing

3. Catch a show at the Kings Theatre, Southsea,
There are some great shows on at the Kings Theatre this half term. Dinosaur Adventure Live: Danger on T-Rex Mountain is an interactive family stage show that introduce audiences to baby dinosaurs, dino-facts and a roaring T-Rex. For younger audiences, Fun for Little Ones is a live, high-energy Ms Rachel tribute show for toddlers and their grown-ups, with sing-alongs, dancing, puppets, on-screen animations and plenty of audience participation. | Kings Theatre Photo: Kings Theatre

4. See an unbelive-bubble display at the Guildhall
At the city's Guildhall, catch world-record-holding “bubbleologist” Ray Bubbles as he tries to create the ultimate square bubble, along with a volcano bubble, a bubble ghost and a tornado inside a bubble. | Solent Sky Services Photo: Solent Sky Services
