This morning Gosport Borough Council said on Twitter that the pool, in Stokes Bay, would be closed until further notice.

In a statement it said: ‘Splash Park is closed until further notice due to technical issues. We apologise for the inconvenience caused.’

The announcement comes after temperatures reached 20C for the second week in succession, making it one of the warmest periods of the year so far.

A Gosport Borough Council spokesman said: ‘We’re very sorry we’ve had to close the splash park, due to a problem with chlorinating the water.

‘We’re waiting on a delivery and as soon as it arrives we’ll re-open the park. We’re hoping very much that this will happen this week.

‘We’d like to thank everyone for their patience.’

The spokesman confirmed this afternoon that the pool had been reopened.

The pool is the second in the Portsmouth area to close in recent days, after the Hilsea splash pool was shut.

Portsmouth City Council said the pool had been vandalised over the bank holiday weekend, with damage to the filters and fittings.
