99 years of wisdom: Joy shares her advice for life
A 99-year-old resident at The Fernes care home in Fareham has been sharing her words of wisdom, proving that sometimes the best advice comes from a lifetime of experience.

Joy, a much-loved resident at The Fernes care home, recently took part in a special interview where she was asked what advice she would give to younger generations.
Having lived through almost a century of changing times, Joy has experienced many of life’s ups and downs and believes that her years have taught her some valuable lessons.

When asked what advice she would give, Joy encouraged people to make the most of every moment and not to take life too seriously.
Her reflections provided staff and fellow residents with a wonderful insight into the experiences that have shaped her life, while also highlighting the wealth of knowledge and stories held by older generations.
At The Ferns, staff believe that every resident has a story to tell and a lifetime of wisdom to share. Interviews such as Joy’s provide an opportunity to celebrate the individual behind the resident and give everyone a chance to learn from their experiences.
Joy’s advice is a wonderful reminder that growing older brings with it something truly priceless - perspective.
As Joy approaches her 100th birthday, her message is simple: cherish the people around you, enjoy the little things and make every day count.
General manager Alina Danetiu said: “Joy has so much wisdom and experience to share, and it was a real pleasure to sit down with her and hear her advice. At The Fernes, we are incredibly proud of the stories and life experiences our residents bring with them, and we love finding opportunities to celebrate the people who make our home so special.”
