MP welcomes new Warm Homes Loan Scheme to help local families cut energy bills

Local MP Amanda Martin has welcomed the launch of the Government's new Warm Homes Loan Scheme, which will help homeowners access low-interest and interest-free loans for solar panels, batteries and heat pumps.

The new scheme will help families overcome the upfront cost of installing clean energy technology, allowing households to spread payments over time while benefiting from lower energy bills.

Installing a heat pump, battery and solar panels could save households up to £550 a year on their energy bills, with even greater savings possible through smart energy tariffs.

This comes on the back of the Portsmouth North MP visiting residents in Paulsgrove who have benefitted from the current scheme.

The MP said: "Families in Portsmouth are fed up with being at the mercy of international gas prices, seeing their bills rise whenever global markets are hit by shocks.

"Labour is taking a different approach. We're helping households take back control of their energy costs by making it easier to install solar panels, batteries and heat pumps without facing thousands of pounds in upfront costs.

"These new loans will help more families cut their bills for good, keep more money in their pockets and reduce our dependence on expensive fossil fuels.

"That's good for household finances, good for energy security and good for Britain's clean energy future."

The Warm Homes Loan Scheme is available across the UK and is expected to support around 100,000 homes during its initial phase. Homeowners may also be able to combine a loan with existing government support, including grants of up to £9,000 through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, further reducing the cost of installing clean energy technology.
