Dan Wooden, Justin Bennett and Adam Wilde were all on target as Alex Pike’s side scored their first league goals in five outings to pick up an overdue three-point haul.

In so doing, Borough, whose previous win had arrived on March 1, moved to within two points of fifth spot with three games remaining.

The hosts led at Privett Park on 20 minutes when Rory Williams’ 30 yard piledriver cannoned off Aaron Howes’ crossbar and fell kindly to the waiting Wooden who gratefully tucked home the rebound.

Borough built on that lead after the interval with Bennett on the mark following a fine counter attack.

Liam Enver-Marum responded immediately for the visitors, though, to ensure Gosport would not have it all their own way.

Adam Wilde, however, restored the home side’s two-goal lead when he rifled home a Williams cross for an eye-catching third Borough goal.

Manny Williams then repeated team-mate Enver-Marum’s trick by cutting the arrears instantly.

But Gosport were not to be denied and went close to a fourth when Mike Carter hit the post in stoppage-time.

Elsewhere, Moneyfields edged past Fareham Town 1-0 in their Wessex League premier division derby clash.

AFC Portchester were also victorious, running out emphatic 5-0 winners at Alresford Town.

That scoreline was bettered by Bognor, though, who kept up the pressure on Ryman League premier division leaders Hampton & Richmond Borough with an emphatic 6-0 triumph against Wingate & Finchley.

The Rocks are now six points off top spot with a game in hand.

Tomorrow night, Petersfield Town play host to Southern League division one central rivals Godalming Town at Love Lane (7.45pm).
