Southsea Community Cinema to screen family friendly Christmas films at Pyramids leisure centre

Portsmouth Film Society is bringing its Southsea Community Cinema project to the Glass House in the leisure centre, turning the space into a 40-seat auditorium across December.
The winter programme will start with a range of films and talks around mental health and addiction recovery, including a screening of 2020’s The Invisible Man and Honey Boy, starring Shia LaBeouf, on Friday December 11.

Hide AdA screening of the award-winning film Clemency will be shown at 7pm the next day.
A selection of family friendly Christmas films will be shown across December 18, 19 and 20, with the program to be announced soon.
The Pyramids Centre will also host film-making workshops for young people from across the city, according to Aysegul Epengin, the development manager for the project.
She said: ‘In addition to showing a broad array of films from around the world, enhanced with guest speakers and themed exhibitions, we will be running film making classes for all ages and host local film making competitions.

Hide Ad‘Film-making workshops will encourage students to produce their mini-stories and share them with the public.
‘At the Glass House we will resume the I AM ONLY HUMAN II class for 17 young adults telling stories on film about how crime in Portsmouth affects them and their peers.
‘The class is being conducted in partnership with Hampshire Constabulary.’
During the summer, Portsmouth Film Society held screenings across the city including in the Guildhall and near The Bandstand in Southsea, with more than 120 people attending an outdoor screening of The Greatest Showman.
