A RESTAURANT and bar serving American food in Portsmouth is to close permanently.

Coast to Coast, located near the main square of Gunwharf Quays, opened in 2014.

Staff at the Portsmouth branch of Coast to Coast posted a message on social media saying they were ‘truly heartbroken’ to make the announcement.

The message continued: ‘This pandemic has been difficult for the whole world and unfortunately the hospitality industry is facing a colossal collapse.

‘Therefore, it is with great sadness that we announce Coast to Coast will remain closed permanently.

‘We want to say a huge thank you to all of our loyal guests from over the years, for your continued support and custom – it has been a real pleasure to serve you.

‘Also a massive thank you to everyone we have met during our time working in the restaurant, whether it as once, twice or three times, you all made our jobs fun and enjoyable and for that we are extremely grateful.’

On Wednesday, TRG emailed managers at its 236 Frankie & Benny’s restaurants to notifying them that some branches would close – but did not say which were under threat.

The restaurant company is one of the biggest restaurant operators in Britain, also owning Chiquito and Wagamama.

Gunwharf Quays has also announced a series of changes which will be introduced when shops reopen, to help enable social distancing.
