In Fareham, the market will have hand santitiser on all stalls, with all traders wearing masks and gloves and contactless payment available, where possible.

Council leader Cllr Sean Woodward said: ‘I am delighted that after talks with the traders they have been able to reassure us that we are able to safely re-start the popular Fareham market from Monday.

‘I know that the market is extremely popular for many people in Fareham and beyond but it is important that everyone who visits the market keeps to the social distancing guidelines and follows the instructions of the traders in trying to keep everyone safe.

‘I am very grateful for the way the traders have worked to responsibly find a safe way for the market to be able to operate.’

Gosport's market has been given a financial boost and will run on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Again, social distancing and hygiene measures will be in place.

Gosport council leader, Cllr Mark Hook, said: ‘Soon we hope to see our shopping streets more full of life, which is good for the local economy and for jobs.

‘I would encourage residents to use local businesses where they can whilst ensuring we all stay safe at the same time.’
