'Heavy heart' as financial struggles forces A Good Yarn to close weeks after first birthday
A craft tearoom has closed
Weeks after celebrating its first birthday, a knitting tearoom has permanently closed after facing financial pressures.
A Good Yarn, in Wickham, celebrated its first anniversary on July 31 with the owner, Lorraine Foster, previously telling The News plans were in the pipeline to expand the tearoom’s workshops and collaborate with The Square Yard.

Posting on social media at the end of August, Lorraine said: “It is with a heavy heart that I have to announce the permanent closure of A Good Yarn Limited, effective immediately.
“Due to financial difficulties, the company has ceased trading. Thank you to everyone who supported my business - I am deeply sorry that we cannot fulfill future events. If you have already paid, please contact your bank straight away.”
A Good Yarn launched last summer after Lorraine ditched her corporate job to pursue her dream of turning her knitting hobby into a full-time job.
The business features a yarn store at the front of the site equipped with a large craft table where people can knit and crochet, with the tearoom located at the back of the venue.
Lorraine previously said: “Our first year has been full of learning, laughter, and community. I’ve met some truly amazing and inspiring people — makers, customers, and supporters who have shaped A Good Yarn into the warm, creative space it has become.”
News of the sudden closure has left customers saddened, with one person describing it as “heartbreaking”.
