Plans approved for indoor skydiving facility to be built in Portsmouth

Portsmouth could be set to see an indoor skydiving facility being built at a popular trampoline park after plans were given the go-ahead by the city council.

An application for the construction of a wind tunnel to form a skydiving facility was filed in July 2019.

The attraction would be built to the rear of the trampoline park Flip Out, at Harbour Gate Business Park in Southampton Road.

The plans were approved by Portsmouth City Council on January 20, subject to conditions.

A Flip Out spokesman said: 'It's a very exciting project but we are still in the early stages and there is a long way to go until we can introduce this wonderful feature to the local community.’

The application was submitted by Portsmouth-based architecture, interior design and project management specialists fingerprintstudios.

Patrick Broggan from the firm said: ‘It’s an exciting project for the south coast and an exciting thing for the sports community and the wider community, given the growth of indoor skydiving.’

It has designed the new facility and will assist with the construction once work begins.

The nearest indoor skydiving facility is iFLY Indoor Skydiving in Basingstoke.

Flip Out is the UK’s largest trampoline park operator, with 14 franchises across the country.

The 18,850 sq ft site on Southampton Road, which opened in 2015, is currently home to 88 trampolines, as well as wall running, a basketball zone, swingbags and a foam pit that people are able to plunge into after completing their jumps.

It is not yet known when the new skydiving facility will be open.
