Portsmouth North Harbour Tesco store is not affected by reduced opening hours

The supermarket chain announced the reduction in hours today but the North Harbour store, off Clement Attlee Way, will not be one of the them. It is the only 24-hour Tesco store in the city.

But the shop in Chichester is among the 76 listed and its opening hours will change to 6am until midnight.

Tony Hoggett, retail director for Tesco said: ‘We’re always thinking about how to serve our customers better in each of our stores and with the growth of online grocery shopping, these stores saw very few customers during the night.

‘It makes much more sense for colleagues at those stores to focus on replenishing the shelves instead and making sure they’re fully stocked when they open their doors at 6am.’

The new hours will come into affect between March 14 and April 11.
