Portsmouth Taco Bell to open: What is it and what food will be on the menu?Â

Martha's has been closed since 2011 and remained unoccupied for the past seven years. 

However now the American fast-food chain is set to take over the site on Commercial Road. 

But what is Taco Bell and what kind of food do they serve? 

Here is everything you need to know about the American fast-food giant. 

What is Taco Bell? 

Found in California in March 1962, Taco Bell specialises in serving Tex-Mex cuisine '“ unlike traditional fast-food chains like McDonald's and Burger King which focus on burgers.

It was founded by entrepreneur Glen Bell, who had initially set up a hot dog stand but after noticing the popularity of a Mexican restaurant across the road decided to switch up his offerings. 

In the 56 years since then, Taco Bell has spread across America and the world '“ with 7,000 restaurants worldwide '“ including stores in the UK. 

What food is on Taco Bell's menu? 

In America, the chain serves Tex-Mex foods '“ a hybrid of American and Mexican cuisines which includes tacos, burritos, quesadillas and nachos. 

According to Taco Bell's UK website, the menu is based around the same Tex-Mex foods '“ so fans of Mexican foods in Portsmouth rejoice!  

With featured items including a Naked Chicken Taco '“ which is a taco made from chicken, with salad inside. 

Other popular menu items include cheese quesadilla '“ kind of like a cheese toastie expect with tortillas instead of bread '“ and fajita quesadilla. 

As well as Crunchwrap Supremes '“ a crunchy tostada shell wrapped around chicken or beef and veg. 

There will also be plenty of taco and burrito options '“ with soft shell and crunchy hard shell tacos both on offer. 

The menu also offers shareable items like fully loaded fries and nacho supreme 

The website does not feature burgers on the menu. 

For sides, Taco Bell offers nachos, Mexican fries, refried beans, Mexican rice, salsa, guacamole, jalapenos and sour cream.
