Rosemary Bailey, president at Fareham Bowls club said, “I chose the RNLI because of our close proximity to the sea and links with naval background of some of its members and other members in clubs around the area.
Rose continued, “The sea is such an important part of all our lives, visiting the beach and enjoying water sports. The dedicated volunteers of the RNLI do such an amazing job keeping us all safe. A terrific day, and night bowling with plenty of food and entertainment to keep everyone going. We raised £1,045.00 on the day, with more funds to come in from sponsorship for the two members that bowled for the full 24 hours. We will continue our efforts to raise funds for the charity throughout the season into September.”

“The event has been supported by, not only our own members but other clubs across the area which we play in league games throughout the season. It’s such a social sport and great fun.” concluded Keith.
Mike Stroud, a representative from the Fareham and Locks Heath Branch of the RNLI attended the event earlier in the day and commented; “This year the RNLI is celebrating its 200th Year Anniversary, so we are delighted to have been chosen as Fareham Bowls Club’s charity for its 50th Anniversary Year.
“We are so grateful to everyone who came along and supported the event. These type of community fund raisers are vital to our survival, as a charitable organisation. Our volunteers risk their lives to save others and need funds for equipment to enable them to do their job safely.”

Rinks were lit with subtle lighting and some bowlers used head torches to light their line to the illuminated Jack. A great time was had by all taking part and those spectating.
Fareham Bowls Club will be holding another dedicated charity day for the RNLI next month.
