Recently, there have been too many reports of parents being irresponsible when dropping their children off at school.

These have included stopping on the cross hatchings, parking in front of the staff car park gates, leaving young children unattended in cars and allowing their child to leave the car whilst waiting in a line of traffic rather than waiting for a car parking space.

Parking dangerously and being reckless has not yet resulted in a child being injured however it will not be long if it continues.

Scarlett Parker, a Year 5 pupil at Padnell Junior School said: ‘Our parents are putting themselves and their children in serious danger and not only that what they are doing can result in them being in big trouble with the police.’

Sarah Luker, the headteacher, is trying to make sure that all children at Padnell Junior School are safe. The school have appointed two Junior Road Safety Officers (JRSOs) to help children identify how they can be safe and encourage their mums and dads to be safer drivers.

They share this message through assemblies and in the school’s weekly newsletter. Mrs Hannah Cooper, the leader of personal, social and health education (PSHE) at Padnell, talks about road safety and important safety tips such as how to always have something neon on your bag or clothing so that drivers can see the children when walking to and from school.
