Southern Health project supporting patients shortlisted for award

The Health and Wellbeing Project, run by Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, was among the finalists at the 2017 Health Service Journal Awards held in London.

The project, which has been running for the past 18 months in partnership with Age Concern Hampshire, sees staff hosting daily activities in the Gosport War Memorial Hospital rehabilitation wards.

The activities, also held in the Petersfield hospital, speed up patients’ recovery and reducing the likelihood of re-admission to hospital.

Hundreds of people from the health industry put themselves forward for the HSJ Awards and Southern Health were in the final 11 in the Supported Self Care category.

Dr Jane Williams, deputy director for Southern Health’s integrated services division, said: ‘I’m absolutely thrilled this project has received national recognition and that we were shortlisted as an HSJ finalist.

‘It acknowledges the hard work Age Concern Hampshire and Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust staff have put in so far.

‘While we didn’t win, we are excited about having showcased our work to date and how it has made a positive impact on our patients’ lives, so that others can build on and learn from our successes.’

As previously reported in The News, Southern Health agreed to carry on funding the project by Age Concern Hampshire in August.
