But he is not going to be doing the hefty walk alone - he will be joined by his 150lb tumble dryer that will be strapped to him each step of the way. In 2019 he walked around the Isle of Wight with it.

He said: ‘I woke up one morning and I had just finished doing a 52-mile run for Charlie’s and I thought to myself what can I do that no-one else has done. Everybody has seen the washing machine and a fridge being done, but no-one has done a tumble dryer.

‘The poor old tumble dryer never gets a look in.’

The nurse has completed previous walks for Charlie’s Beach Hut, a caravan in Perran Sands, Cornwall, which provides respite for families with a child who has life limiting medical conditions.

He is set to walk from Milford-on-Sea to Emsworth, which is roughly 60 miles, to raise money for the charity.

Ian said: ‘I am going to struggle with this one. It is going to be a tough one because on the first day I have to do 25 miles to get to Hythe Ferry, or I will be stranded.

‘It is never about the weight of the dryer, it is about the distribution and the pain first comes in the neck and shoulders.’

The charity was set up by Karen and Steve Codling who lost their son, Charlie, to a brain tumour at only four years old.

The 53-year-old decided to start raising funds for the charity after meeting Karen and Steve a few years ago and has completed many gruelling walks for Charlie’s Beach Hut, raising approximately £10,000 overall.

It costs £700 to send a family to the caravan for a week, and Ian is hoping that he will raise over £2,500 to give at least two families a break.

Ian added: ‘We need to consider the current climate and that people are struggling so I understand. Even if I can just get enough money for one family to go, that would be fab.’
