The Briny has confirmed that it will be closing its doors for four weeks from next month while the final stages of frontage 4 - between South Parade Pier and the Pyramids - is completed.

This is because the works around the Briny include excavating and re-surfacing right up to the building, which will mean that access will be cut off. There will also be lighting installation and water mains connections which will prevent safe access.

Coastal Partners, which is carrying out the sea defence works has confirmed the business will be appropriately compensated for any loss. It is thought that the frontage 4 works will be completed by the end of the year.

On Monday the Southsea Coastal Scheme will start a new phase of work which will see a huge portion of Southsea promenade close until summer 2026. The area between Blue Reef Aquarium and the hovercraft will be closed to the public and, as a result, The Beach Club, will be closing its doors for 18 months.

A temporary path is being created by the Coastal Partners team to the north of the Portsmouth Naval Memorial on the Common which will provide a route across the area once the promenade closes.
