"It is important for every child to eat breakfast": Purbrook café continues free breakfast club throughout school holidays

The Village Bakery and Café is continuing their Breakfast Club throughout the school holidays

A café in Purbrook is offering free breakfasts for children throughout half term, continuing their Breakfast Club for local school children throughout the holidays.

The Village Bakery and Café on London Road is running the free breakfast club from 7:30am to 10am through the holidays, offering free cereal and toast to children.

Aaron Price, owner of The Village Bakery and Café, said: “We’ve been running the breakfast club for nearly a year and the reason we started this was because we work closely with a few of the local schools and were told that a lot of children would tell their teachers and dinner ladies that they were hungry and hadn’t had breakfast.

“It is important for every child to eat breakfast before school to ensure that they have energy to learn and a balanced breakfast contributes important nutrients that growing children need!

“The response has been great with lots of local people and companies donating cereal, juice and spreads etc. As we have grown such a large social media presence, averaging 20 million views a month, lots of cafes around the country have reached out and are now following suit.

“Not only are we receiving donations from our community but other charities like Sophie’s legacy are supporting us.

“Some people feel embarrassed or struggle to get into the café so we also offer a breakfast hamper that we deliver. The free breakfast club is open to anyone that is finding things tough at the moment.”

The Breakfast Club runs from 7:30am to 9am during term time but has been extended for the half term period. Breakfast hampers are available on request and you can find more information here.
