As part of National World’s Food and Drink month this September, I found myself thinking about some of the venues in the city that are always receiving glowing reviews from locals.
I recently asked our readers where they love getting a slice of cake and a coffee - and to my surprise the answers came rolling in quickly. The Tenth Hole was constantly recommended - so I had to try it out.

Hide AdAs a disclaimer, I have never been to The Tenth Hole before so I was going in blind - but I was in awe of the selection of cakes. The moment I walked into the cafe my eyes were instantly drawn to the angelic looking sweet treats that were tempting me. Everything in the cake cabinets looked absolutely fantastic and deciding on just one was probably the hardest decision of all.
I opted for a chocolate and caramel flake brownie and a caramel cappuccino (yes, there was a whole load of caramel kicking about in this purchase). It came to £7.20 which, I think, is very reasonable, especially considering the size of the cake that was dished up - the cafe definitely aren’t stingy on portions.
I had my order as a takeaway but the coffee barely lasted the car journey back to the office - it was delicious - and I’m a harsh critic when it comes to a good cup of coffee. I then started on the brownie which was heavenly and rich. The combination of the chocolate buttercream, the flake and the salted caramel drizzled on top created something of cake dreams. I couldn’t eat it all at once because of the large portion - and it was very rich - but my oh my, it was good. I can see now why people rave about The Tenth Hole and I would dish out a solid 8 out of 10 rating for the coffee and brownie, which I think is a pretty impressive score.
