Olympic Snowboarder Jan Michaelis decided to raffle off his home, near West Wittering Beach in West Sussex, to raise funds for Surfers Against Sewage and Brain Tumour Research.

In addition Jan has also decided to raffle off an alternative prize of a holiday home in Portugal along with a £45,000 car and £150,000 cash. With the deadline originally due to close this month (February) it has now been extended to June to allow more tickets to be bought to raise further funds.

Jan said: ‘At the end of last year we had already donated £10,000 to Brain Tumour Research and Surfers Against Sewage. We hope this move will enable us to make another much-needed donation soon.

‘We feel as though we owe it to our incredible charities and ticket holders to do as much as possible to make the raffle a success. We are incredibly close to being able to donate another lump sum to charity, so we want to do all we can to enable this to happen.’

Marine Conservation Charity, Surfers Against Sewage, said Covid-19 has had a significant financial impact on its community fundraising efforts that has resulted in the loss of around £300,000.

Charity director Pete Lewis said: ‘Fundraising in 2020 was difficult. We saw a 20 per cent reduction in our income, which is around £300,000. Now more than ever we need to continue protecting our marine environment.

‘Every ticket you purchase will help us clean up our beaches, engage the next generation of children in caring for our environment and campaign to strengthen legislation and help raise awareness to our mission. We are incredibly grateful to Jan and Alina for their efforts in raising money and awareness for our charity and welcome the extension.’

The draw will now close at 23.59pm on June 30, 2021. Tickets costing £2.50 can be purchased via the Winmybeachhome website.
