Celebrating refugee artists

EVENTS are taking place across Portsmouth to celebrate the artistic talent and incredible stories of refugee artists.

The 12-day long event is part of the national Journeys Festival International campaign.

Yesterday saw an event held at the Javalicious Coffee House, in Kingston Road. The Red Cross was joined by Roni Cheesman, creator of pop-up theatre piece ‘10,000 children...’, to talk about the 10,000 refugee children who are missing in Europe.

Tomorrow, an event will take place at Guildhall Cafe, in Guildhall Square, from 10.30am, where Miriam Halahmy, author of book Hidden, will be with Rowshanara Reza, founder of Portsmouth’s Chat Over Chai, to talk about ways diverse communities can unite through experiences.

The festival ends on Friday with an event at Portsmouth Cathedral, showcasing the UK premier of the film Sanctuary and Sustenance. For more details go to journeysfestival.com/
