Hampshire woman arrested on suspicion of baby’s murder

OFFICERS investigating the death of a one-month-old baby in Hampshire have re-arrested a woman on suspicion of the infant’s murder.

Police have confirmed a 26-year-old woman has been re-arrested on suspicion of murder and a 42-year-old man on suspicion of allowing the death of a child following the death of a baby in Hythe in February 2019.

On the morning of February 2 last year South Central Ambulance Service reported that it was dealing with a one-month-old baby who was ‘seriously unwell’. The baby was taken to Southampton General Hospital but was pronounced dead on Wednesday 6 February.

In February 2019 Hampshire Constabulary arrested a man and a woman from Hythe on suspicion of attempted murder. They were questioned by officers and then released on bail pending further enquiries.

The same man and woman were then arrested again on suspicion of murder in August 2019 and released on bail pending further enquiries.

Police have today (July 14) confirmed the re-arrests of a man and woman who are currently in custody.
