Investigation launched after Portsmouth corner shop is broken into

POLICE have locked down a corner shop following a break-in today.

Hampshire Constabulary is investigating an incident at the Spar in New Road, Fratton, after the store’s alarm was triggered in the early hours of this morning.

Upon arriving at the scene, the shutters were brought down and the shop was closed by police.

One onlooker saw one of the police’s scientific services vans outside, with a note on the door instructing people to see the police officer at the back entrance.

A spokeswoman for Hampshire Constabulary said: ‘We were called to the Spar store on New Road, Fratton, just after 4.30am on Monday, October 26 after an alarm was activated.

‘On arrival officers discovered that the tills had been broken into and a number of cigarettes were taken.

‘Investigations are ongoing.’

The total damages, plus the cost what was taken from the store, is unknown at this time.
