Man on bike indecently exposes himself in front of woman in 20s near Portsmouth war memorial at night

POLICE are hunting a man on a bicycle who flashed a woman near a war memorial.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary received a report on Wednesday evening a female in her 20s was approached by the male in the Guildhall area.

He followed her for a short while before trying to sexually assault her near the Cenotaph. The man then indecently exposed himself before cycling away.

The victim is being supported by specialist officers. Police have followed all lines of enquiry to identify the flasher.

They are appealing to anyone with information to come forward. Portsmouth Chief Inspector Pete Smith said: ‘We appreciate that this will be concerning to local residents and we would like to reassure you that we take all incidents of this nature extremely seriously.

‘We are working hard to investigate the circumstances of this incident and to identify the man involved. In the meantime, we would like to reassure you that officers will be patrolling our busiest night time areas over the weekend, including Guildhall Walk and Guildhall Square.

‘Please be assured that you can approach one of our officers at any time if you are concerned for your safety. Alternatively, you can also speak to staff at all licensed premises in the city.

‘You can also seek support from the Street Pastors, who will be patrolling the Guildhall Walk area over the weekend, or visit South Central Ambulance Service’s Safe Space at the Civic Offices.’
