Mark, 53, who has 22 years front-line experience as a paramedic and is now a professional first aid trainer, said: ‘I didn’t see it happen but we heard it all. My daughter’s fiance made the call to the police.

‘I went out and started treating the guy. He was lying on the ground with an injury to the back of his head. He was bleeding quite a lot.

‘It was a gash and a large haematoma (a bleed) on the back of his head. He had hit his head on the curb.

‘He was unconscious to start off with then he started to come around after four or five minutes.

‘We dressed the wound and tried to keep him still. He was very confused and we were trying to reassure him.’

The trio, assisted by another neighbour, tended to the man and placed him into the recovery position on the floor.

Mrs Jones, who works in Winchester, said everyone was quick to react to the situation, with the Good Samaritans providing first aid for about 15 minutes until the paramedics arrived.

The 35-year-old told The News: ‘Everyone just came together and tried to help out.

‘The gentleman was incredibly lucky to have been injured where he was. Between having a first-aider, a midwife and myself living in the street, he couldn't have been in better hands.’

It’s understood the injured 43-year-old male was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital.
