Police boss has meeting about rural crime issues

RURAL crime was top of the agenda as the county's crime commissioner met farmers' representatives.

Michael Lane, Hampshire police and crime commissioner, met with advisers from the National Farmers Union.

He said: ‘It was good to meet representatives from the farming community and the NFU this week, and I was pleased to hear their positive comments on engagement with rural policing teams.

‘They also spoke about local issues and concerns, including the value they place on local knowledge and understanding of specific issues.

‘Their concerns were to understand the reporting procedures and response times, and the particular responsibilities of the police alongside local authorities when responding to reports of crop damage, vandalism and fly-tipping.

‘I am looking forward to more engagement with rural communities across the area to understand their priorities.’

Mr Lane attended the Isle of Wight County Show yesterday.
