Police have released a CCTV image of a man they believe can help with their investigation into an assault on a woman in Portsmouth.

The incident occurred around 2.25pm on Thursday, 9 May in Portsmouth. A woman in her 30s was sitting down when she was assaulted by an unknown man who grabbed her hair causing her to fall.

A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesperson said: “Do you recognise this man? We would like to speak to him in connection with a report of an assault which occurred at approximately 2.25pm on Thursday, May 9. During the incident, a woman in her 30s was sitting down when she was assaulted by an unknown man.

“The man approached the victim and grabbed her hair, causing her to fall off her chair and onto the ground. Thankfully, the woman was uninjured. We believe the man in this image can help us with our investigation and would urge him, or anyone who knows his identity, to get in touch with us.

“Also, if you witnessed anything of the incident itself, saw anything suspicious in the area at the time, or have any CCTV, mobile phone, dash cam or doorbell camera footage which could aid our investigation, please contact us.”

The man the police would like to speak to is described as:

•White • Aged between 25 and 30 years • Stocky build • Short black hair • Wearing white trainers, grey jeans, black top and black gilet

The police are asking for anyone with information to come forward by calling 101, or by reporting online via the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary website, quoting incident number 44240194951.
